Shipwreck was commissioned by Urban Wilderness, as part of the Forest Worlds Festival in Stoke on Trent.
The festival took place in July 2019.
The work also moved to Appetites Big Feast on August the 23rd and 24th of 2019.
This was my first collaborative piece of work that I have made and it was made with Sneyd Academy (Primary School) in Stoke on Trent. After undertaking several sessions which included a site visit with a small group of younger creatives we came up with the idea for the work after climbing an old slag heep. Ideas and stories were told and discussed as where what they wanted to have here. One included a giant slide from the top to the bottom the other was a boat as they could see the pools below. This later developed into a shipwreck. After several sessions a final design of the sail was made and figure heads for the front of the ship were complete.
During this process I was closely followed by Jenny Hallam who recorded the process and reported her findings here for Derby University.
Special Thanks to everyone at Urban Wilderness.
